After more than two years since their last song, Bosnian sevdah band Divanhana presented their new song “Ćilim”, to all of their respected followers. It is another one originally written song by this popular band.
Lyrics have been written by Samir Šojko in war years during the aggression in Sarajevo on the banks of river Miljacka, where a couple of romantic verses with a pinch of Bosnian humour have been born. The music for this song is written by nine composers, members of Divanhana band, together with the members of popular Austrian band Russkaja.
“Lyrics written by Samir Šojko have been hidden in the pocket of the concert gown for many years. We have inherited them by Mrs. Enisa Hajdarević Šojko. Lyrics which had been written in the mid 90s have told a romantic story with beautiful and funny tone, defying to a hard time lived by Sarajevo citizens. Just then in that cruel hopelessness during the washing of Killim (Ćilim) on Miljacka river banks, some new sevdah has been born. That’s the sevdah we wanted to share with the entire Planet.” said Neven Tunjić, band’s Pianist.
The song was recorded in Ljubljana during February 2020 in the cult studio Metro. It is produced by eminent Slovenian producer Janes Križaj, with Borjan Milošević and Neven Tunjić. A lot of guest musicians had intertwined their musical elements in “Ćilim” such as Rok Nemanjič on the trumpet, Goran Gojčevski on the flute, and Slavonian tambourine players Ivan Bobinac and Iwan Josipović.
“Ćilim was recorded in pre-pandemic time during our stay in Ljubljana. From this perspective I could say that this song represents an echo from our past lives, from the time when we had a freedom to walk, socialize, play, sing and hug with song. For us “Ćilim” represents a new period in time which will for sure bring out only the best in people. United with our friends from Slovenia, Croatia and Russkaja band, we have knitted the most creative and honest feelings to present an explosion of new sevdah to our appreciated audience.” said Šejla Grgić, Divanhana’s vocal.
Video was created by a longtime associate of the band, Sallex Perić who had directed, animated and edited the video. The camera crew was led by the director of photography Davorin Đuranović.
