On December 19th 2011. which seems as a long time ago, a young music band has appeared on Bosnian sevdah scene. It was formed by music academy students from Sarajevo University. They have began their story by Sevdalinka “Evo srcu mome radosti”.
Carrying their academic knowledge and combining folk Melos with modern musical styles, they have soon won the hearts of many traditional sevdah song lovers, the older ones and the younger ones as well. Their sevdah fairytale still lasts. In their rich career they have had hundreds of concerts all over Bosnia & Herzegovina, Europe and the rest of the world as well. They have published three studio albums, one live album and one movie edition, they had accomplished dozens of collabs with eminent world musicians. Many have written about their sevdah: European ARTE, British BBC, Songlines and fROOTS Magazine, German Deutsche Welle, Turkish TRT, Al Jazeera and other regional and local media.
Recently they haven’t been on social media, so their fans have wondered if this great music band has decided to end their career due to the consequences on musical industry caused by Covid pandemic. However, the band says that behind that move is in fact the Covid pandemic which had an impact on them just as on every other being on our planet, and they strongly feel that after 10 years, they are starting from the beginning again.
They have decided to make their new beginning official by a new song “Ćilim”:
“It seems like 19. December 2011. was yesterday. As if we have just came back from Šestica studio and presented you the song “Evo srcu mome radosti” in this colorful virtual world. It feels like yesterday but the clock will soon strike at 10 full years. 10 happy years which have lined as pearls with love. We have exchanged so many smiles and hugs, happiness and sadness, good and bad, which we have combined in one unique song that will always fill our hearts with happiness. Enormous happiness.
We live in a pandemic time and to someone our music feels like a sweet cure, while to the others it feels bitter, like salt on a wound, just as this time we live in, where someone enjoys happiness, while the others suffer in pain. That’s why we hit the brakes, took a deep breath and started from the beginning. On 19. December 2021. we will present you “Ćilim” (bos. traditional Balkan carpet) on which we spread our wings and fly to a new decade of our sadness and happiness, sevdah and our love.” says the Divanhana band.
